I have started a group on meetup.com http://homeschool.meetup.com/702
that has been in the formation process since August, we currently have 46 members with 14 homeschoolers or future homeschoolers showing interest in a learning cooperative that meets on a weekly basis. We will be meeting in Pleasant Hill on January 30th at 6:30 PM. I would love to open the invitation up to anyone that is interested in creating a wonderful opportunity for our children, as well as anyone that has experience with a functioning cooperative that could share their experiences and/or thoughts.

The vision for the cooperative starts with preschool through grade school, but it can be adapted to fit any age that we have participants, as many members interested have children in all age groups.

If anyone is interested in this idea, or knows of anyone that would be interested, please feel free to pass on my info and I would be happy to discuss details about the 'brainstorm' session on January 30th as well as locations and times of future meetings and discussions.

Thank you for your time and I wish everyone a blessed and productive
week!

Is anyone interested in developing a learning co-op? I am trying to form a group of like-minded families to share and grow with during my childs educational development. A learning co-op program is a group of families who come together to share the teaching and learning experience. Co-ops generally meet once a week. The general setup of a co-op program will involve one parent who is proficient in math teaching a math class with students. Another parent who is proficient in writing or science may hold a writing or science class for the students and so on. Learning co-ops are a wonderful outlet for parents and it is also fun for the children because they can be around their peers and learn from other like-minded families. These co-op programs work very well for any age group. Co-ops come in many different shapes, sizes and styles. They can also provide more than just outlets for academic learning. They may participate in field trips, plays, sporting events and other activities which the group approves.
